Devices - Before You Buy
⚡ Be aware that new device installations without attic or basement access will require us to open access points in the drywall. This is to run the new wiring. Plan for these added drywall and paint costs and schedule a drywall professional accordingly
⚡ Consider that sometimes the existing wiring is not compatible with modern devices such as GFCIs, AFCIs, or smart switches. To supply the device in these cases, a neutral wire must be ran to the device location
⚡ Test your devices such as outlets to see if they feel loose or fail to grip plugs. This can indicate worn internal contacts and should be replaced
⚡ Check whether your existing dimmers are rated for LED fixtures, since mismatched controls cause flickering or buzzing. Sometimes it’s not the fixture that is damaged but rather a faulty switch
⚡ Please feel free to reach out about any device questions if you are planning on furnishing the device
⚡ There’s many newer devices with useful functions. Consider if you want modern upgrades like USB outlets, night-light outlets, smart switches, or motion sensors
⚡ Consider that older electrical systems with outdated wiring methods often aren’t grounded. This can require us to run new wiring to be code compliant. There are other fixes though, such as replacing with GFCIs or replacing with 2-prong devices.
